Steamed Fish Fry - sanaa's recipe
  1. 1 Cup = 200ml
For the marinade
  1. King fish (or any other fish of your choice) - 2 big pieces
  2. Red chili powder - 2 tsp
  3. Turmeric powder - ¼ tsp
  4. Lemon juice - 1 tsp
  5. Salt - to taste
  6. Oil - 1 -2 tbsp (for frying)
  1. Marinate the fish pieces with the above ingredients. Heat oil in a pan and fry it for about 5 -6 minutes turning the side after 3 minutes. Keep it aside.
For the masala
  1. Onion - 2, chopped
  2. Green chilies - 2
  3. Crushed ginger garlic - 1 tsp
  4. Tomato - 1, chopped
  5. Red chili powder - 2 tsp
  6. Turmeric powder - ¼ tsp
  7. Coriander powder - ¾ tsp
  8. Curry leaves - 8 - 10 leaves
  9. Oil - 2 -3 tbsp
  10. Salt - to taste
  1. Heat oil in a pan, add the chopped onion and saute till soft. To this add chopped green chilies and crushed ginger garlic and saute till the raw smell disappears.
  2. To this add the chopped tomato and cook till soft. Add red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and salt to this and saute till oil appears on top. Add curry leaves to this, combine and remove from the flame.
For steaming
  1. Take 2 big pieces of aluminum foil, take 1/4th of the prepared masala and spread it (according to the size of the fish) in one of the foil. Now place one fried fish over the masala, again top it with 1/4th of the masala. Pour little of the remaining oil from the fish fry, if any. Fold the aluminum foil neatly. Repeat the process with the remaining fish fry and steam it for about 20 minutes. Serve hot.

Note : you can use banana leaf instead of aluminum foil.
