Beetroot Chicken

Beetroot Chicken - sanaa's recipe
  1. 1 Cup = 200ml
For the marinade
Ingredients
  1. Chicken – 1 kg
  2. Red chili powder – 1 tbsp
  3. Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
  4. Ginger garlic (crushed) – 2 tsp
  5. Salt – to taste
  6. Oil – 3 – 4 tbsp (for frying)
Method
  1. Marinate the cleaned chicken pieces with the remaining ingredients except oil for an hour.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and fry the marinated chicken pieces till done. Keep it aside.
For the gravy
Ingredients
  1. Beetroot – 2 (grated)
  2. Tomato – 3 (big)
  3. Green chili – 3 + 2 (chopped)
  4. Onion – 5, (thinly sliced)
  5. Crushed ginger garlic – 1 tbsp
  6. Red chili powder – 1 tbsp
  7. Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  8. Water – 1 ½ cup
  9. Capsicum – 2 (chopped)
  10. Garam masala powder – ½ tsp
  11. Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp
  12. Salt – to taste
  13. Oil – 4 tbsp add little more id required)
Method
  1. Grind together grated beetroot, tomato and 3 green chili to a fine paste. Keep it ready.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and fry the sliced onion till golden brown. Keep it aside. In the same pan, add crushed ginger garlic and 2 green chilies and saute for few seconds. Add red chili powder and turmeric powder to this and saute till the raw smell disappear, over low flame.
  3. To this add the ground beetroot – tomato paste, 1 ½ cup water and enough salt and bring to boil. Cook for about 5 – 6 minutes over low flame. Add the fried chicken pieces and cook for about 6 – 8 minutes, till the gravy is thick.
  4. Add the fried onion, capsicum, garam masala powder and coriander leaves, cook for another 2 minutes and remove from flame. Serve hot.
